If you are a beginner in electronics then you obviously need some guidance to set up your first electronics lab to do all the cool projects.
As a basic step, You won’t need a lot of things, so don’t worry. And almost all the equipments can be found on local electronics shops or in online markets. I’ll give you links also. So, get your gears ready and jump into the battle..
1. SOLDERING IRON
This is very important tool you must have. There are different types of irons and their price also varry. As a beginner, you won’t need a costly one. So my recommendation is purchase a 25 watt iron and it will meet your needs. the picture is of a better quality 25w iron,Indian variant.
2. IRON STAND
Be careful while handling irons. They get really hot to damage your work table and even you. So it is important to use an iron holder/stand.This thing is really cheap.
3. BREAD BOARD/PROTOTYPE BOARD
Breadboard or prototype board is a pretty amazing thing that one hobbyist must have. When you have got some circuit designs, you need to test them out before making them permanent. Here comes the breadboard. No need of soldering. Just insert parts (only through-hole parts are compatible) in it and if needed remove them by pulling off.
4. WIRE STRIPPER
All connections are made by wires. So, must need a tool to strip off the insulation of wires. A tiny nipper can easily handle this task. And yes, it’s very cheap.
5. SOLDER (noun)
OK, now you have soldering iron and wires. but how can you solder (verb) things if you don’t have solders (noun) ? So now you need to get a spool of solder. But one important thing to remember – quality matters a lot. You can purchase solders in really cheap price but quality will be too bad and it will affect your soldering and may cause dry soldering. So I recommend to spend some more bucks and purchase quality products.
6. DESOLDERING PUMP
Suppose you have mistakenly soldered a wrong part and now you want to remove it. To solve this problem, desoldering pumps are used. Really easy to use. At first press the piston head downward and lock it. Now heat up the joint that you want to desolder using your iron. When you’ll see solder is melted, just place desoldering pump’s face on it and release trigger. The piston will go upward and solder will be sucked in.
Multimeter is an instrument for testing various equipments and their parameters. Without this versatile gadget you just can’t proceed. With a common multimeter you can measure voltage (AC and DC), Current (DC only), Resistance, Continuity of a path, and hfe or amplification factor of Transistors.
Now if you are ready to spend some extra bucks to get a professional multimeter, then you can also measure AC current, Capacitance, temperature, Frequency etc.
Though, as a beginner you won’t need a high-end multimeter.
Now collect other things as per your requirements. Some of them are : tapes, knife, scissor, pliers etc. And purchase some LEDs, resistors, capacitors according to the circuit diagram of your project.
SEE MY ANOTHER POST TO LEARN How To Use Multimeter .
I shall submit another post about guide to purchase electronics parts as beginner in not so distant future.
So, now you know what to buy to get started. Just collect them and set your very own lab up. If any help is required, no matter how silly it seems, just don’t hesitate to ask me. I’ll try my best to help you.
